THE ANNEX

The Cedars Union Annex is the current home of the CU, located at 1219 S. Ervay Street in Dallas, Texas. It houses a studio hall, a full woodshop, shared workspace, computer labs, and meeting space for our programs and members.

MEETING ROOM

This large space, which is immediately accessible from our main entrance, is where we hold our public programing. This AV equipped room can hold up to 30 people in chairs or 20 at tables for panel discussions or presentations. There is a four-piece modular conference table where our Members can meet with clients or have a comfortable place to work. The Meeting Room is equipped with a kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, water cooler, and coffee station. This room is available for event and meeting rentals for both Members and the public.

FABRICATION LAB

A shared workspace for our members.

The Fabrication Lab (Fab Lab) is a shared work area outfitted with three workbenches, stools, and easels. The tables are set on casters allowing the space to be adaptable for the artists' needs. The large rear wall can be used for new media, video, photography, and projection work. This room is also home to our Juki commercial sewing machine, a Fletcher-Terry multi-material cutter, and our printmaking station, including an Ettan Etching Press and small Econo etching press. A selection of projectors, photography, and audio equipment can also be checked out by CU Members to use in this space.

PC LAB

PC workstation for modeling, rendering, and 3-D Printing.

The PC Lab has a custom-built PC workstation running Windows 10, designed specifically for computer modeling, rendering, projection mapping, and motion graphics work. 

This lab also houses our Bambu Lab P1P 3D printer, a Bambu Lab X1-Carbon 3D printer, and our Graphtec CE6000 Plus vinyl cutter.

Mac lab

Mac workstation for photo, video, and audio editing.

The CU Mac Lab is outfitted with an iMac Pro loaded with software tailored to photo, video, and audio editing. 

A Wacom Intuos for all your digital drawing and sketching needs, and a Loupe Deck for speedy photo editing workflow. It is also the home of our large-format HP plotter-printer, available for all Members to use.

wood shop

Our workshop is outfitted with a full complement of professional quality tools and equipment. The shop layout is designed to maintain safe working conditions for artists, while allowing fast workflow through the shop. A Kaizen organizational process is followed in the CU shop, making it easy to locate and properly store tools and materials for all our Members, while maximizing efficient use of the space. 

Each month, we host Intro to Woodshop to train CU Members in proper use and safety for the main tools and equipment in the workshop. Completing this training qualifies Members to continue more in-depth training on each tool in our Members Workshops.

STUDIO HALL

Personal workspaces for CU Studio Artists.

The Studio Hall, sponsored by The Eugene McDermott Foundation, is the community hub and main workspace for our Cohort Artists during the 18-month program learn more about here. Four sizes of customizable studios are available in two distinct designs: the micro-studio and the traditional studio. The micro-studios come in 8x8 ft. and 8x16 ft. studio options, these studio concepts were designed in-house by our Creative Director, Matthew Bowdon. They are completely customizable, with movable furniture and storage that can be outfitted to match each artist’s needs. The traditional studios come in 10x12 ft. and 10x20 ft. options which line the outer walls of the hall and have the same level of customization and a French cleat system for storage.

As you enter the room from the public entrance, you’ll see our front desk where you can sign up for a membership, check the programming schedule, or buy a t-shirt. This large space is where we hold our public programing, as well as the hands-on workshops for our Members.

This AV equipped room can hold up to 35 people in chairs or 28 at tables for panel discussions or presentations. There is a conference table where our Members can meet with clients or have a comfortable place to work, and a kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, and coffee. This room is available for event and meeting rentals.

PC Labs

This centrally located room has a deep shop sink and a floor sink with hot and cold water. From brushes to printmaking screens, we have your creative cleaning needs covered. The Wet Lab also houses safe, flammable materials, hazardous chemical storage and disposal locations. It is also the main storage area for general cleaning supplies for the building.
