Aidan Kearns
Aidan Kearns (b. 2003, Santa Monica, CA) is a visual artist and aspiring educator creating light-based sculptures and installations. Kearns currently lives in Denton, where they recently earned their Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas. Throughout their time spent in undergrad, Kearns has held a strong presence in numerous group shows and exhibited their first solo show, Asian Glow, in 2026 at the University of North Texas' Paul Voertman Gallery. Outside of gallery exhibitions, Kearns has also contributed to the local Denton arts scene through volunteer work as an arts educator and as a graphic designer and organizer for student-led organizations.
Kearns' visual language and use of light come from his interest in revealing the point at which the art object becomes accessible to the world and people outside of itself. Many of his works can be seen as derivative of Minimalist art or Modernist architecture; but by inserting elements such as lighting fixtures or neon text, Kearns creates a beckoning warmth that draws his viewers into works that would otherwise be seen as lifeless or sterile. Informed by his experiences as an Asian American, Kearns' lights symbolize the excellence and shared culture of his community. When put against his otherwise puritanical surfaces, these vibrant elements demonstrate the necessity of meaningfully including marginalized voices when the goal is achieving something impactful.
