SUMMARY:Untouchability and the Threshold - Solo Exhibition by Gaurii S Kumaar
DESCRIPTION:Untouchability and the Threshold – Solo Exhibition by Gaurii S Kumaar \nExhibition Dates: October 13 – 24 \nReception: October 23\, 6p – 8p \nOpen Hours by appointment \n  \nExhibition Statement: \nCurator James Harris Gallery presents solo exhibition of Artist Gaurii S Kumaar. Untouchability and the Threshold traces the right to enter—and the refusals that shadow it—across domestic\, sacred\, and civic space. Bells\, a cot\, a beaded swing\, and painted landscapes become material witnesses\, translating marked tumblers\, segregated wells\, and enforced distance into touchable form. Using everyday materials—plants\, metal\, bricks\, coal\, soil\, cots\, walls\, jewelry\, embroidery—the work evokes the raw\, complex realities of the 1947 Partition of India and the feminine role in Indian culture. The exhibition serves as an experimental ground for investigating which materials carry histories of touch and taboo\, and for designing spaces where everyone can truly enter and belong. It asks who may enter\, sit\, touch\, rest\, and be served. Beauty and burden are held together through metal\, cloth\, gold\, and pigment\, honoring inheritance while refusing exclusion. In crossing and remaking thresholds\, the exhibition invites viewers to imagine spaces where belonging is practiced\, not policed. \n  \nInstagram: @winonartsvibes \n

SUMMARY:Playing A Part - Christina J. Hahn and Katherine Lam
DESCRIPTION:Playing A Part – Two-Person Exhibition by Christina J. Hahn and Katherine Lam \nExhibition Dates: October 13 – 24 \nReception: October 23\, 6p – 8p \nOpen Hours by appointment \n  \nExhibition Statement: \nKatherine Lam and Christina J. Hahn partner to present “Playing a Part” a duo exhibition taking place at the Pink Room of the Boedeker Building\, Cedars Union Art Incubator. \nHahn and Lam collaborate in a two week exhibition that translates their roles in their communities into a visual installation: Dissecting both their individual contributions\, and what it looks like when collective effort is made. \n“Playing a Part” comments on navigating a seemingly contrastive visual landscape with the use of multimedia: a reflection of the wide skillset required to traverse our current artistic ecosystem. The work and act of collaboration itself reflects the artists’ civic responsibility\, and the monumental vision they aim to achieve from building an environment from the ground up. \n  \nInstagram: @whatsgoinghahn @kathilam \n

SUMMARY:Past Selves - Group Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Past Selves – Group Exhibition curated by Chukwudi Ukonne \nExhibition Dates: October 13 – 24 \nReception: October 23\, 6p – 8p \nOpen Hours by appointment \n  \nParticipating Artists: \nAP Harvey\nChukwudi Ukonne\nKatherine Covarubbias\nKris Hawkins\nLaken Jefferson /Ruffin McKinley\nMadeline Herrera\nPooja Gopi\nSamantha Strong Murphey\nSebastian Paramo\nTawanda Mulalu\nVictoria Malone\nWilliam Gerst \n  \nExhibition Statement: \nThe inevitability of change is\, for better or worse\, one of the defining realities of human experience. W e change because we choose to\, because we have to\, and sometimes because the world changes around us before we have had time to understand what is happening. If change cannot be escaped\, then perhaps one of the central questions of life is how we reckon with what it leaves behind. \nNothing vexes the mind quite like nostalgia. Memory has a way of returning us to people and places that no longer exist as we remember them—including earlier versions of ourselves. W e encounter these past selves in photographs\, abandoned ambitions\, old relationships\, familiar places\, forgotten habits\, and memories whose meanings have shifted with time. Some inspire tenderness; others embarrassment\, grief\, anger\, hope or disbelief. Some represent an innocence we mourn\, while others remind us of circumstances we survived or identities we had to shed in order to become who we are. \nHow do we negotiate the delta between who we were\, who we imagined we would become\, and who we eventually became? And what happens when we encounter a former self whom we can neither fully reclaim nor completely leave behind? \nPast Selves is a multidisciplinary exhibition and poetry showcase exploring how we mourn\, interrogate and honor the versions of ourselves we once were. The project will bring together 10–12 Dallas-based artists and poets\, creating an interdisciplinary environment in which different mediums engage with and respond to one another. The exhibition draws on ideas of evolution and self-reckoning articulated by thinkers such as Friedrich Nietzsche\, James Baldwin\, Susan Sontag . The goal at the heart of Past Selves is to facilitate an atmosphere of personal reflection and collective contemplation\, where audiences can meditate on their own histories of transformation \n  \nInstagram: @chukwudiukonne \n
