SUMMARY:Critical Feedback Sessions
DESCRIPTION:Open to the public \n  \nThis program provides deep\, critical feedback on participating artists’ work. Five artists may participate in 15-minute conversations\, welcoming feedback from an audience of members of the DFW community. Both CU members and non-members may present work. \nWhile potentially blunt\, Critical Feedback Sessions serve to provide unfiltered and honest feedback regarding conceptual\, contemporary\, or formal aspects of artworks being discussed. Conversations will center more on viewer reactions and feedback rather than artist’s explanation. Presenting artists may present up to 3 works either in progress or completed. \nPizza and refreshments will be provided. \n  \nSIGN-UP TO PRESENT \n

SUMMARY:Experimental Wood Dyeing w/ Narong Tintamusik
DESCRIPTION:Free for CU Members | $40 tickets for public \n  \nThis one-day workshop introduces aniline dyeing as an experimental approach to coloring wood beyond traditional stain or paint. Participants will explore how translucent dyes can transform wood surfaces into layered\, textile-like skins through techniques such as washing\, layering\, bleeding\, bleaching\, and resist. The workshop is open to artists working across painting\, craft\, sculpture\, and design who are interested in expanding their surface vocabulary. Students will leave with a set of test panels and a deeper understanding of how dyes can be used as structural and conceptual materials. This workshop is open to all levels. \n  \nNarong Tintamusik (ณรงค์ ตินตมุสิก) is a Thai-American artist and material researcher based in Dallas\, Texas. His interdisciplinary practice explores personal and collective survival through painting\, sculpture\, wearables\, and installation\, all shaped by a craft-centered approach. Drawing from Thai heritage\, queer identity\, Buddhist-animist cosmology\, and a former career in biological sciences\, his work engages with themes of infrastructural collapse\, cultural assimilation\, spiritual disconnection\, and systemic barriers to care. He asks: how can we look beyond material systems of value toward deeper forms of connection\, attention\, and nourishment?

SUMMARY:Methods in Critique w/ Christopher Najera & Fernando Alvarez
DESCRIPTION:Open to the public \n  \nJoin us for a lecture co-presented by artists Christopher Najera and Fernando Alvarez. As artists\, we spend a lot of time discussing our opinions and the formal properties of artwork\, but what makes a critique both beneficial and stimulating as a conversation? These two artists will discuss their approach to critique\, tools and formats\, and engage in a live critique of artwork as a demonstration. \n  \nChristopher Najera is an artist based in Fort Worth\, Texas and a current MFA candidate at TCU. Christopher is part of and works with the local mutual aid and immigration justice groups here in DFW. His work deals with the intersectionality of identities\, his Chicanx roots\, queer identity\, and the current cultural zeitgeist. \nOriginally from Tegucigalpa\, Honduras\, Fernando Alvarez moved to North Texas in 2006. His concept-driven work uses his displacement from Honduras to explore broader themes like paranoia\, culture\, and class\, often with a humorous or flippant tone at his own expense. Through an interdisciplinary practice\, Fernando examines the eccentricities of his background to better understand himself and the subcultures he navigates. Fernando is also a co-founder of Easyside\, a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Easyside is an art space in East Fort Worth that provides career resources for artists and addresses food access and equity in the area. Currently\, Fernando is an Assistant Curator of Education at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.

SUMMARY:Coil Built Ceramics w/ Cat Rigdon
DESCRIPTION:Free for CU Members | $65 tickets for public \n  \nCome get your hands dirty at the CU! Join Cohort 2 alum\, Cat Rigdon as she guides you through the process of coil-built ceramics inspired by ancient Cypriot artifacts. This workshop will cover the basics of creating a coil-built ceramic vessel with handles. Once your vessel is built\, you’ll dive into decorating using sgraffito underglaze techniques\, allowing you to personalize your creation. \n  \nCU staff will bisque fire your creation which will be ready for pick-up 2 weeks after the workshop. These pieces will not be food safe and are intended to be sculptural. \n  \nCat Rigdon is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Dallas\, Texas. She grew up on the island of Cyprus during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Rigdon and her siblings would sneak into ancient archeological sites such as Tomb of the Kings in Paphos and rummage through abandoned monasteries and hotels\, sometimes under their parent’s supervision. These strong memories along with the island’s strong folk art\, naturalism\, and archeological relevance are reflected in Rigdon’s work through her depictions of ancient funerary goods. \n  \nRigdon graduated from Texas State University in 2014 with a Bachelor degree in Studio Art-Painting. After graduation\, she moved to Dallas as a Decorative Arts Junior Specialist and Cataloger for Heritage Auctions. During her tenure with the auction house\, Rigdon honed in her understanding of object and material culture. The position allowed Rigdon to handle thousands of objects\, pieces of furniture\, and a few ancient artifacts.
