Sharmeen Uqaili
Sharmeen Uqaili is a multidisciplinary artist based in Richardson, Texas. Working across painting and sculptural forms, her practice draws from sacred geometry, traditional illumination, ornament, and cultural memory. Through layered compositions and symbolic motifs, she creates parallel spaces where memory, imagination, and lived experience converge. Her work explores themes of home, memory, longing, and belonging.
Uqaili earned her MFA in Studio Art from Southern Methodist University and holds a BA in Visual Arts from The University of Texas at Dallas. Her work has been exhibited in juried and group exhibitions including Dallas Contemporary, Agora Gallery, Woman Made Gallery, and Artspace 111.
In my paintings and sculptural works, I explore the idea of a parallel space, a peaceful realm beyond the limitations of everyday life that feels both distant and deeply familiar. I create windows, portals, and layered spaces that offer glimpses into this realm, where memory, imagination, and longing converge.
Drawing from scenes inspired by Sindh, I use cultural memory to explore spaces beyond ordinary experience. A figure walking toward the horizon, a doorway, or a patterned surface becomes symbol for movement between earthly existence and a space of peace and transcendence. These landscapes are not merely depictions of place, but reflections of longing, belonging, and the search for home.
