Tyler Germaine
I’m a multimedia artist working in photography, film, sculpture, and whatever physical materials feel right for a project. I’m usually circling the surreal, the absurd, and the things that feel a little cracked beneath the surface. A lot of what I make comes from trying to pick apart American culture from the inside, using distortion, humor, and staged realities to think about identity, consumption, and the ways things fall apart.
Most pieces start with a small spark: a weird object I can’t shake, a found photo, a phrase that sits wrong. I build outward from that, creating visual worlds that feel tactile, off-balance, and emotionally charged. I like processes that leave room for imperfection. I use hand-built setups, analog methods, materials that have their own history baked in.
I’m drawn to the push and pull between sincerity and satire, performance and decay. Making art is where I get to confront things and play with them at the same time. It helps me make sense of living in a culture that can feel hollow, unstable, or flat-out surreal. Through experimenting and rearranging the overlooked or thrown-away, I try to find new meaning in what most people pass right by.
