On Critique: Virtual Discussion with Christopher Mosley and Lyndsay Knecht

The relationship between artists and critics is marked by structural power dynamics and fraught with shifting perceptions of the media's role. How, then, can we return to criticism as an opportunity for two-way dialogue? In this virtual discussion, Christopher Mosley and Lyndsay Knecht point to the legacies of various movements as collaborations between artist, critic, and patron, and answer questions about art criticism's role in Dallas.

Christopher Mosley is a journalist, critic, and editor who has lived in Los Angeles, Austin, and Dallas. You can find his most recent work in the opinion section of NBC News, the arts section of The Dallas Morning News, and various other publications. Past work includes being the full-time digital editor at FD Magazine, the online arts editor at D Magazine, and a content manager at the Nasher Sculpture Center, where he helped edit and write for the museum magazine. He has written essays for a number of record labels such as Hardly Art/Sub Pop Records and the art department of Southern Methodist University. Mosley has given numerous talks and lectures at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, where he will return to teach for a third time in March 2022. He was recently interviewed by Pitchfork.com about failing in the entertainment industry.

Lyndsay Knecht has written about art and artists for Southwest Contemporary magazine, Texas Monthly, NPR stations, and other outlets. She created a workshop called Sound Sketches for the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth's education department that helps students find language for visual art by making soundtracks to still works in the galleries. As associate producer for Think with Krys Boyd on KERA 90.1, she pitched and oversaw episodes on self-portraiture in Western art, diaristic documentary-making and the repurposing of industrial space in Berlin.
